We hit over 6,000,000 views on our TikTok video this month.
In 6 weeks, we gained over 8,000 new followers.
This is the power of short-form video.
There has never been anything quite like it.
For most of this audience, you are probably sitting there thinking, my audience isn't there; it's just a bunch of kids.
But I want you to sit back and question that for a bit.
37% of all users are over the age of 30 and 21% are over 40 years old.
This number is going to increase continually. It is still super early for TikTok.
But, it's not just about TikTok.
Short-form video in portrait, 9:16 ratio is dominating every platform.
YouTube, Facebook, & Instagram are all pushing their own version of these videos and from what we have found with our clients, the same style video also performs super well on LinkedIn.
Now I know not everyone feels they are good on video. But there are plenty of ways to make these videos where you don't have to be front and centre.
You just need a decent strategy.
To create a strategy though, you need to start consuming on the platforms to know what people are watching.
So, here is your homework.
- Download either TikTok or YouTube on your phone.
- Search three topics you are an expert in.
- Consumer 200 videos on each topic and take notes.
- Define a style you want to emulate.
- Start mapping out 'Hooks' (The first 3 seconds of the video)
- Start recording
- Start posting.
Follow us and comment on one of our videos saying you read this and we'll follow back.
See you there
It sounds like a you problem.

We've got to say, Milanote holds quite a very special place in our hearts.
It's creative. Well-formatted. And she's organised.
Oops, did I say she?
Well, you see she's been so useful in our lives and supportive, it's hard not to see her as a person.
At least for some of us.
In this week's How To we wanted to show you guys how we use Milanote... with a little bit of How To flair of course!
Milanote is truly an important part of this business. It gives us the chance to create systems and templates that work for our unique company and also such a great place for all of our creatives to help realise their visualisations!
We hope you enjoy and Stan and Clair assure us they'll remember to thank us in their Oscar acceptance speech!
What does it actually mean to be in the music industry in NZ?
It was awesome to have musician Hahko/Isaac McFarlane as our inaugural Guide guest! We are off to a good start!
In last weeks podcast, Hahko told the story of his career, from the Timaru school rooms to the streets of London and back again.
Trying to grow in the music world in this day and age can complicated to navigate. Digitisation has meant there are so many different aspects and skills that musicians need to focus on.
Hahko shares with us one of his goals to create a space for artists to be able to talk on their own terms and dictate their own culture, along with many other stories along the way.
In Part Two, Hahko talks about where he's at in his career at the moment and where he's headed. After years of playing as a duo, he had to take a step back and figure out how he wanted to move forward.
Sian & Hahko chat about interviewing skills, the NZ music industry, different aspects of the music industry and the direction of Hahko's career.
